Saying Au Revoir to June Gloom

Hi friends,

June was a big month. As it marks the halfway point of the year, I felt like I started to get a in a bit of a ‘mid-year crisis’ mindset. Did I accomplish any of my goals? Did I try hard enough? Did I make the most out of every opportunity?

I’m a very goal-oriented person. I believe in manifesting the things you want in life and working hard to get them, but I also understand that sometimes fate has other plans and you can’t force anything. I find this so frustrating to grasp nonetheless.

With this little prelude of my inner thoughts hopefully providing you with a little bit of context for where my head is at, here are the highlights from this past month:

What I Wore:

Some style highlights ~

  1. Wearing my dad’s old Hugo Boss blazer and mom’s vintage Ann Taylor skirt.

  2. I created a Chanel Camellia hair pin from the store packaging. See my tutorial here.

  3. Styling my vintage butter yellow dress as a skirt.

  4. I repurposed my mom’s vintage LV keyholder into a micro belt.

  5. Banana phone 🍌

  6. Summer’s hottest accessory, books.

  7. A little black and white outfit I wore to my new favorite coffee shop.

  8. I thrifted this top for about 20 euros back in April and I was so happy to finally wear it for out.

  9. Repurposing silk organza from the fashion show I walked in into a choker.

What I Ate:

Lately, I haven’t been feeling too inspired about my food. I still enjoy cooking and baking but I feel like my rotation of recipes is starting to get a bit dusty. In the meantime, here are some yummy things I ate this month:

  1. I baked a peach pie for my dear friend, Ghazal’s bachelorette party. 10/10

  2. Fresh scone and cappuccino at Dreamin’ Man.

  3. Meal prep lunch: pasta, mint tea, and an orange.

  4. Grocery haul. Taste the rainbow.

  5. My drink of choice: lemon, puréed ginger, bit of brown sugar, ice, and water.

Photos 6 - 7 are from a collab dinner I attended with my friend, Ivana at Paris j'adore Hôtel & Spa. There was live music, exceptional service, and even a blind fold experience for the main course. You just have to try it for yourself.

Lastly, I finally had the chance to visit the Grand Mosque in Paris with some friends. I love how there’s constantly a tray of sweets going around that you can buy by the piece. The restaurant and tea room are perfect for sitting under the summer sun.

Where I Went:

Photos 1-3 are from my visit to Le 19M during Nuit Blanch, a public holiday in Paris where museums are open late with temporary exhibitions that visitors can experience for free. Le 19M is a multi-cultural center for founded by the House of Chanel where you can discover the various haute couture Maisons that create Chanel’s collections.

You can view the video I made about my visit here.

Photos 4-6 are from Paris’ Fête de le Musique, which is a citywide music festival where you can see live performances for free all throughout the city. From classical music played by the Paris orchestra to underground DJ sets in the streets, there’s truly something for everyone. For me, Fête de le Musique is my new favorite public holiday in Paris.

Photos 7-9 are from my first fashion show in Paris! I was lucky enough to meet Anastasia Mathiotte on Instagram and discover her small atelier here in Paris. Anastasia is a designer from Russia and she specializes in gown made from Italian silk organza. Many thanks to Anna Kolessnyk for making the introduction.

You can view the whole show from Haute Couture Week here.

Many thanks to all my friends who were able to attend the show here in Paris! To be honest, I was a bit nervous to be walking in the show but overall the energy of the event was amazing and I felt overjoyed to help Anastasia make her fashion dreams come true.

Now that a new month is ahead, I have no idea what my summer will hold. I still hope that I’ll land a stable job soon but in the meantime, I’m grateful for the small projects I’ve gotten so far and I’m still going full steam ahead.

Bisous et à bientôt!

Kiana
